“From the very beginning of the special military operation and before that, we said that the peoples should decide their fate, and the current situation confirms that these peoples want to be the masters of their own destinies,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the Rossiya state channel.

According to the Reuters news agency, a referendum will be held in Kherson between September 23-27 to join Russia.

Putin recognized Donetsk and Luhansk

In 2014, Russia illegally annexed Crimea with the events in the square in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. After this, the separatists declared governments in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where the Russian ethnic population is in the majority.
